MATH 1301 – COLLEGE ALGEBRA

 

Textbook: Essentials of College Algebra with Modeling and Visualization, 3rd edition, by G. Rockswold, Addison Wesley, Boston, MA, 2008.

 

Catalog Description: College-level topics in algebra including variation, systems of equations and inequalities, nonlinear inequalities, functions and their graphs, lines, quadratic equations and functions, complex numbers, polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions, the algebra of functions, an introduction to plane analytic geometry and applications related to these topics.

 

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in MATH 1300 or placement by exam taken at UHD or a score of 270 on the math section of THEA.

 

Grading policy:

Online HW 10%

Three exams, each 20%

Each exam will consist of 20 multiple choice questions.

Final exam 30%

The final exam will consist of 40 multiple choice questions.

 

A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=0-59.

 

Office hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:30pm

 

Help: There will be short reviews before each exam and the final exam. You are encouraged to ask questions in class and come to the office hours. Additional help is available at the Math Lab in the Academic Support Center (925-N). They can help you improve your reading, writing and math skills.
